Timber Windows
At Henry James, we understand that sometimes timber sash windows are preferable to those of modern materials. The decision may be associated with local planning orders, around listed buildings restrictions, to accommodate particular aesthetic considerations or may simply be our customer's personal preference.
We can match any existing sash window, no matter what the design or age, and authentic style is very important to us.
Maintenance
Timber, without doubt, requires the most maintenance and attention of all materials, but well constructed new sash windows should last as long as the original sash windows of the past, many of which are still installed in good working order today. We supply and install only the highest quality sash windows, whatever the material, and you can have confidence that your windows will outlast your greatest expectations.
Energy Efficiency
Our timber windows come with features designed to make them draught free such as insulation brushes within the profile and 24mm sealed glazing units. These features also assist with noise reduction which is often important in older properties where road and aircraft traffic have become increased since they were built and were not originally a consideration.
Colours and Finishes
The range of colours for timber sash windows is, of course, limitless, with the option of factory painting for durable perfection. Factory painted timber windows should not be expected to need repainting for in excess of ten years. Stains and varnishes may be applied in the factory or in situ to give a natural timber finish.
Hardware
There is a wide choice of hardware for our timber windows and we are happy to fit any on the market which meet our stringent security and quality guidelines. As with the PVCu sash windows, there are pole rings, sash lifts, cam locks, restrictors and tilt knobs.
Security
Key operated cam locks and interlocking sashes, together with opening restrictors, provide for a high level of security on our modern timber sash windows.
Balance Mechanisms
Timber windows can be built with traditional sash and weights systems or with modern internal balances. This depends on the level of authenticity you prefer and whether the new windows need to be matched to existing.
Trickle Vents
All new builds are now subject to regulations regarding ventilation - please find more information in our technical information section.
Our windows, whatever the material, can incorporate trickle vents and we only use those most sympathetic to the window's appearance so that you will hardly notice they are there.
Tilt and Fire Escape Options
We offer the same flexibility on our timber sash windows as we do on our other products.
