Trickle Vents

What are Trickle Vents

Trickle vents, or night vents as they are also called, are a ventilation system that can be left open at night or while you are away with no compromise to security.

Henry James Trickle Vents

Our trickle vents are virtually unnoticeable as they are made from material identical to that of the window and have very slim lines.  They are designed to minimise any clash with the traditional style of our windows.

The vents can be installed through the head of the sash, or through an extension to the frame.

The simple opening and closing mechanism is easy to use, and as the vents cause no significant heat loss or draught, it is feasible to leave them permanently open.

Building Regulations

Part L of the recent government regulations regarding new builds addresses the problem of heat loss through fenestration and the part that these products play in the thermal behaviour of a building.  By almost eradicating the exchange of air between outside and in, the new regulations would mean that harmful polutents which are caused by people, computers, etc. - would be able to accumulate, resulting in damage to health, such as respiratory problems, and to the fabric of the building.

Part F of the Building Regulations redresses this problem by insisting that new builds have trickle vents installed, either in the windows or in the doors, to allow a controlled exchange of stale air and fresh, clean air.

If you are unsure whether you need these vents, your builder or architect should be able to tell you whether your installation is subject to the new government legislation.  If you are simply replacing old windows, it is unlikely that you will be required by law to to install trickle vents.
