The Material - PVCu

Modern Material - Traditional Appearance

At Henry James, we combine all the benefits of this modern material with the period features of original timber sash windows.  The result is a trouble- free sliding sash window virtually indistinguishable from those made from timber.

Low Maintenance

This material offers terrific durability with very little need for maintenance.  It requires an occasional wash with warm, soapy water, and it is recommended that  moving parts are oiled every 12 months.

Strong and Secure

Henry James PVCu sash windows are fusion welded and fully reinforced with steel for superior strength.  This ensures that there is no warping or movement of the window frames and guarantees smooth and effective function of the window action.

The material's strength, coupled with the security features we fit as standard, make it extremely difficult to force entry.  Heightened security is available on our PVCu products where required.

Thermal Quality

PVCu is at the forefront of energy efficiency and can boast excellent thermal qualities.  It is designed to resist extreme weather conditions and we supply our PVCu sash windows complete with modern weatherseals and glazing standards which together ensure very high thermal ratings.

Cost Effective

PVCu does not rot.  The Building Research Establishment states that a typical PVCu door will have a lifespan of 35 years.  This longevity, coupled with no requirement for redecoration, makes this material a highly cost effective fenestration option.  According to research, PVCu cost savings are around 50% compared to similar products in timber and aluminium.

Environmental Aspects

The eminent scientist, David Attenborough, is just one of the scientists who refute that PVCu has a poor record in recycled waste.  His findings are that its low recycling rate is due to the fact that most of it is still in use!  Obsolete PVCu products are almost 100% recyclable with a high proportion of it being reused to make more PVCu products.

Dioxins are produced in PVCu production in tiny quantities, but a high proportion of these are captured before escaping into the environment.  One bonfire night releases as many dioxins into the atmosphere as does a PVCu factory over 30 years.

At Henry James, we minimise our impact on the environment by ensuring that we and our suppliers exploit, where possible, new, cleaner technologies and techniques.
